Source reference

A source reference is an opaque identifier that connects a returned fact to its source record, field, release, and property account. A client can expand it into provenance and a human verification route.

Why it stays opaque

Clients should not parse, edit, or construct Quoin source references. The evidence tool validates the full reference before returning the publisher, dataset, lookup inputs, release timing, and verification steps.

Verified DC example

The verified CAMA example for 1801 K Street NW uses official source record ID 473583123 with SSL 0107-0075. Its display route points to the official DC Open Data CAMA page with the inputs needed to find the record.

What to display

Show the human Source or Verify route to the user. Keep machine provenance for development and audit systems, and never expose raw machine or session-bound source URLs as the verification link.
